Sub-inspector Vimal Kumar, who is posted at Bodam Thana in East Singhbhum district, has been charged in the rape case. The sub-inspector in question raped the widow by imprisoning her in a residential flat in the Old Purulia locality in the Azadnagar thana area of ​​Mangu last April.

The victim met senior SP Prabhat Kumar and subsequently lodged a complaint with the Mahila thana against the sub-inspector seeking justice. But her plea was accepted after she filed a complaint in court.

The Azadnagar police have registered the case on the orders of the court.

“We have registered a rape case against sub-inspector Vimal Kumar on the basis of a court order. Necessary action will be taken against the accused as per law,” Azadnagar thana OC, Rakesh Kumar said while talking to the media.

A resident of Mirudih village in Gamharia, the victim, who used to work as a maid under a cook, went to work for a wedding reception at Mango on 16 April 2022. The sub-inspector allegedly took her to an empty flat along Old Purulia Road where she was raped by the accused.

According to the complaint, the accused kept the victim in the house for three days, during which he continuously raped her. Finally, he took the victim out of the apartment and released her on Jugsalai.

When the victim reached home, her family members suspected foul play and pressed her about what happened to her. She revealed everything after being forced by her family members, but they knew about the policeman's involvement.

The matter gained momentum after the victim, who had already become pregnant due to the rape, gave birth to a child on December 1, 2022. Only then did she turn to the Senior Public Prosecutor, Mahila Thana, and finally to the Court of Justice.

Significantly, after the matter came into the limelight, the accused sub-inspector allegedly threatened the victim with dire consequences by going to her house in Gamharia.
